I was twice in Banda Aceh, where the disastrous tsunami hit in 2004. I met locals and experts to hear about the recover ten years after the event. A natural disaster brought peace and, for now at least, the chance of a future. I tried to answer the following questions: is Banda Aceh safer than before? And have science and technology provided people with the means to prepare for the next appointment with a natural disaster?
Also, I learned of a early warning system, a song, that save thousands of lives in a tiny island off Banda Aceh. It is fascinating, read it on Medium.
